So wait, wait, wait – you’re telling me that my entire job is to make sure all of Puget Sound is invited to the coolest ride and party in 2013? Um, I’m in. And that’s how it began!

My name is Melissa, and I started working as the outreach manager for Obliteride at Fred Hutch in September. It’s my job to make sure everyone in our community is invited to participate in Obliteride, the best party Seattle has even seen. I share with people how they can participate and what an incredible weekend it will be. I am hitting the streets to recruit over 2,500 riders and 1,000 volunteers for the inaugural Obliteride this August. It’s going to be an amazing ride!

My trunk is full of marketing materials, snacks (including delicious Specialty’s cookies) and Obliteride SWAG. My outreach efforts will take me all over Western Washington. I will host informational meetings at companies like Microsoft, Starbucks, and Averro where I will bring in Pagliacci’s Pizza (oh yeah, a sponsor!) and let employees know about the amazing lifesaving cancer research happening at Fred Hutch. Most importantly, I tell them how they can be part of this movement to obliterate cancer through Obliteride.

Every month between now and July, I will be at Gregg’s Cycles talking to their customers about Obliteride and how they can participate by riding, donating or volunteering.

Look for me at the following places in February.

February 6, 4 - 6 p.m., Gregg’s Greenlake Cycle

February 7, 14, 21 & 28, 7 - 8:30 p.m., Fred Hutch’s Science for Life series

February 24, 8 a.m. - 12 p.m., Chilly Hilly. You can find me on the ferry from Seattle to Bainbridge telling all those cyclists about Obliteride.

February 28, 6:30 - 9:30 p.m. Women on Wheels at Gregg’s Greenlake Cycle
